Population Control

So I guess I should post something. These are some character designs for a zombie story written by a friend. There are a lot of issues, but after countless hours of repainting and redrawing, I think this is the best I can do with the image. And only the beginning of rebuilding my portfolio...

  1. Hey dude! This is looking really nice. You successfully communicate a lot through these images. I like your presentation, having the blue and orange behind them. Your textures are really nice as well.

It seems this piece pretty much has a fork in it, so take this following critique as advice to bring into your future pieces. Overall, I can see your poses are much stronger. Keep pushing that and take some good photo reference to make your job a little easier.

The main area that stood out were the wrinkles in his jacket, how her clavicle connects to her shoulder, and the hands. The girl's pose is more dynamic than the guy's. Having the bat on his shoulder or something would have been an interesting (even if cliche) choice.

Hope this helps!Take em with a grain of salt, of course.

  2. Damn you Steven, calling me out on all the things I was having trouble with and never managed to resolve...

The girl's pose I think I got lucky on, and the guy's I redrew about 80 times, and this was the best I got.

I have a rudimentary understanding of cloth and drapery as it hasn't been something I've worked on, but I need to... work on it .

Hands. Haaaaaaands. I should have taken Haaaaands and Feet.

The person I was doing this for was waiting for me, so I had to deliver. But your critique is of course helpful as it always is, because it reinforces that I can't get away with the sloppy bits, where I know I should be doing better. Thanks.

  3. Hahaha, I just like to give you a hard time. I figured my comments would be redundant but said them anyway. Knowing you had a deadline changes it up a bit too. Did your friend like it?

    1. She did. I'll see if I can make some corrections before I put it in my portfolio.
